2 Nephi Ch. 1
Lehi prophesies of a land of liberty—His seed shall be scattered and smitten if they reject the Holy One of Israel—He exhorts his sons to put on the armor of righteousness. Between 588 and 570 B.C.
Lehi is speaking to his sons, and it sounds like he's on his deathbed. He's telling Laman and Lemuel how disappointed he's been with them. Especially how they've treated Nephi. They've sought to hurt even kill him because they were so angry when he told them to repent. "And ye have murmured because he hath been plain unto you." I've had those feelings before, when I knew I wasn't doing right. Stumbling upon a talk or a lesson that hit me at the core, and feeling irritated at the speaker or teacher. Especially when it's something that goes against popular culture. Like the talk from October conference, Mothers Who Know. I talked with friends about it, and we all seemed a little rubbed by the talk. But, I kept an open mind and tried to understand what Sister Beck was getting at. She wasn't trying to force a doctrine on the women of the church, rather she was boldly speaking about truths that lead to a peaceful life. I was sort of trying to blame the messenger, rather than accepting responsibility for my own feelings. But I just learned from this chapter: "But behold, it was not he, but it was the bSpirit of the Lord which was in him, which copened his mouth to utterance that he could not shut it."
