2 Nephi Ch. 2
Redemption cometh through the Holy Messiah—Freedom of choice (agency) is essential to existence and progression—Adam fell that men might be—Men are free to choose liberty and eternal life. Between 588 and 570 B.C.
After reading this chapter, I actually said "wow" out loud. I can't believe how much is packed into one chapter. Lehi is talking to his son Jacob and explaining the Atonement of Christ, and how we are free to believe in Him and accept it. He talks about how we must be free to choose, and there must be good and evil to choose from. If there was no good or evil, we wouldn't have any choices to make.
"Wherefore, the Lord God gave unto man that he should aact for himself. Wherefore, man could not bact for himself save it should be that he was centiced by the one or the other."
"And if ye shall say there is ano law, ye shall also say there is no sin. If ye shall say there is no sin, ye shall also say there is no righteousness. And if there be no righteousness there be no happiness. And if there be no righteousness nor happiness there be no punishment nor misery. And if these things are not bthere is no God. And if there is no God we are not, neither the earth; for there could have been no creation of things, neither to act nor to be acted upon; wherefore, all things must have vanished away."
He goes on to talk about Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. Because they fell, we are all in a fallen state, needing the Savior's atonement to return to Heavenly Father's presence. But, we have to be in this state in order to feel true joy, being able to differentiate between the bitter and the sweet.
"aAdam bfell that men might be; and men care, that they might have djoy."
wow.
