The Law of Moses Typifies Christ

2 Nephi 11

Jacob saw his Redeemer—The law of Moses typifies Christ and proves he shall come. Between 559 and 545
B.C.

Although this is a short chapter, there's plenty to study. Cross-referencing on lds.org I found some talks and Ensign articles about symbols and types of Christ. First, I wanted to know what the words symbol and type actually mean. You might want to do your own referencing, but this was what I understood:

Symbol: an object with a veiled meaning

Type: "a shadow things which are to come..." Mos. 13:31

So, with that understanding there are tons of examples in the scriptures. As well as talk after talk on the subject. I think the imagery that impresses me the most is the law of sacrifice. I try to imagine being Jewish back in the Old Testament days. Probably I'm a farmer, and my animals are my livelihood. Choosing my best, unblemished lamb to sacrifice would be a true act of love. I imagine the innocent little animal with no imperfection, no need to die. So sweet and little. Then I imagine having to sacrifice it. When I imagine this scene and then think of Christ as innocent as the little white lamb, I come that much closer to understanding the atonement. I feel so sad when I see Christ's true innocence. I can see that like the farmer who had to sacrifice his own lamb, because of our sins, we also had a hand in sacrificing the Savior. But, then I also think of the love the farmer had for his animals. He had to be obedient to practice the law of sacrifice. So, also, through our love we can accept the atonement, as part of God's plan. We can see that we are part of this plan, and that it was created for us. Wow, I just had a little second where I could understand how God loves us in such infinite ways, yet also numbers each of us.
