2 Nephi 12
Isaiah sees the latter-day temple, gathering of Israel, and millennial judgment and peace—The proud and wicked shall be brought low at the Second Coming—Compare Isaiah 2. Between 559 and 545 B.C.
I loved this chapter! Isaiah's writings are so beautiful to read. Like poetry. I love when he speaks about the Lord's house being established in the mountains and that "all nations shall flow unto it". Then where he says "Come ye, and let us go up to the bmountain of the Lord, to the chouse of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will dwalk in his paths..." The invitation for all to come to the temple. To learn the ways of the Lord. We need to get to the temple next month! In Holly Springs, we lived down the street from the temple and we didn't go nearly as often as we should have. Now, our temple is in SC, so it's more of a trek to get there. But, there's no more peaceful place to be than in the temple. So, it's worth the drive. All you Utah folks must be going monthly, right?
Isaiah goes on to talk about the peace of the millennium. Swords being beaten into plowshares. And how the land is full of chariots" and "horses" ie cars. Full of gold and silver. "Their land is also full of aidols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made." This stood out to me because of something I heard on the radio yesterday. I was listening to NPR Fresh Air and David Edelstein was giving his top movies of the year. Listening to him respond to Teri's questions was very interesting. He could recall the subtlest details of all the movies, and reference other films and contrast them. All with such eloquence. But, then he started talking about a couple movies from this year, where the main character is unwed & pregnant. He gets on his soapbox about how these characters were obviously not prepared to be parents. But, they irresponsibly decide to keep their babies, instead of opt for abortions. He then lays out this whole argument for why they should've terminated their pregnancies. What? I know he's smart and all, but seriously?? What? I was very surprised they aired his whole tirade. It's bothersome that he believes a woman is foolish for choosing to carry the baby to term. What about the right to choose?
Anyhow, that just goes to show some of the secular attitudes in the world today, that man knows better than God.
Isaiah goes to talk about what will happen to the idols people create: "In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which he hath made for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;"
