2 Nep 8
In the last days, the Lord shall comfort Zion and gather Israel—The redeemed shall come to Zion amid great joy—Compare Isaiah 51 and 52:1-2. Between 559 and 545 B.C.
Well, I have to admit when I first saw this was another Isaiah chapter, I did a little sigh inside. These chapters require effort. To be honest, this morning I'm looking at all the things on my schedule, and trying to understand Isaiah is just one more "to do". I need a serious change of heart.
After soldiering through the chapter the first time, the thought came to me, "These must be important words if the Lord included them in both the Old Testament and the Book of Mormon." That was the attitude adjustment I needed. We know the Book of Mormon was special preserved for those of us living here and now. So, apparently these particular words of Isaiah are ones we need to hear.
Here's a summary from my Isaiah book:
"Again the Lord calls to members of the Church, asking them to hearken to his words. At the conclusion of the laast days, as the Lord ushers in the Millennium, he will bring an end to the fallen condition of the earth. He will renew the earth and restore it to its Edenic state. The Lord will dwell among his people.
As the events of the last days unfold, the Lord assures us that if we are righteous, we need not fear the works of man. The Lord is greater than any man, and he will help us. He reminds us of his works of power in times past; by that same power he will bring Zion and fulfill all his promises to her."
My only thought this morning, is that you have to read this chapter for yourself. Different people will draw different things from it. How exciting to have scriptures that so powerful that we can reread them throughout our lives and always learn something new.
